Lei n° 1.840/99 O bairro Vila Real é um dos cartões postais de Balneário Camboriú, por ser sede da famosa Via Gastronômica, conhecida pela sua gastronomia típica, e também da Ponte Pênsil, construída em 1981 para interligar a Vila Real ao Bairro Barranco. A Vila Real é o segundo bairro que mais abriga nativos de Balneário. Totalmente urbanizada, calçada e dotada de comércio próprio para atender seus moradores, o bairro tem seu nome ligado à história, devido ao grande número de açorianos que ali fixaram residência e que resolveram homenagear uma localidade de Portugal chamada Vila Real.
